Community Work Sessions
Lassen County may be off the beaten path, but dirt paths are one thing the Northern California county has in plentiful supply. That was one of the underutilized assets we identified in this heavily forested Northern California county.
The opportunity was found in mudders — hardcore obstacle courses designed to test the stamina of adventure runners. An abundance of bike trails and public land also pointed to mountain biking events as an opportunity to capitalize on visitor traffic by outdoor enthusiasts.
As the stakeholders worked through the assets and opportunities, they became engaged in a new outlook; they even adopted an aspirational goal: Becoming one of the Top 15 Mountain Biking Trail Communities in the U.S. One supervisor commented, “This is not what I expected but is exactly what we need.”
