Power of 100+ Women supports AFWD program for those who fall through the cracks
Congratulations to the Alliance for Workforce Development (AFWD), this quarter’s Power of 100+ Women - Chico recipient. With approximately $10,000 ($100 donated by 100+ members) AFWD will be mentoring 25 young women in need of life and career skills.
These are 17- to 26-year-old women who exited high school without a built-in support network and just missed qualifying for other forms of assistance — the “scary middle” as AFWD calls it. They will receive intensive guided instruction from role models, with the goals of employment and a better understanding of work/life balance and social skills.
In addition to mentoring, AFWD’s program will provide interview and work clothing, transportation solutions, and cell phones to access information and resources. There will also be incentives and social outings to practice positive behaviors.
Power of 100+ Women is a giving circle of like-minded people that pool their money to support worthy nonprofit projects four times a year. Chabin president Audrey Taylor proudly participates in the Chico organization and she was thrilled to see AFWD selected in this round.
